Out Of The Drought Comes Solutions and a Chance To Change The World

With 7 billion mouths to feed, human agricultural exerts a tremendous toll on the planet, from water draws to pollution, and from energy use to habitat loss. There is also a growing set of solutions. By 2050 it is predicted that 50% of our population will live and work in urban areas around the world.

The vertical aeroponic system utilizes up to 95percent less water than traditional soil based agriculture.

The farm eliminates point-‐source pollution by utilizing closed-‐system technology, recycling 100 percent of its nutrients and water. Groundwater contamination is simply eliminated because no harmful

chemicals are used in Tower Garden® production. The ability for chemicals to come in contact with the soil is removed.  This is possible because the crops are grown vertically off the ground, eliminating crop damage from nematodes, pathogens, and soil borne insects which typically require chemical treatment. In addition, the farm is housed in a state-‐of-‐the-‐art Controlled Environment Greenhouse, further protecting the crops from most harmful pests that typically require the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

Waste & Recycling

The farm recycles 100 percent of nutrients and water, thus reducing the tremendous waste in fertilizers, water used in conventional agriculture. Produce spoilage is eliminated with living produce, as plants are harvested with roots intact. In addition, plants have extraordinary shelf life and no chemical gasses are used.

In the state of Florida, 90 percent of leafy greens and lettuces travel 3,000 miles from California. Given the long transportation and storage time, there is a high rate of spoilage and waste.

Because a majority of Central Florida’s leafy greens and lettuces travel thousands of miles, large amounts of diesel exhaust are created. These diesel emissions, which contribute to smog and poor air quality, are virtually eliminated with local food production by utilizing Tower Gardens®

Since the farm requires no heavy diesel farm equipment (tractors, field equipment), significantly fewer greenhouses gases are utilized than traditional soil based agriculture.

Open Space

1/2 acre of Vertical Farming, is the equivalent of approximately five acres of land production.
